A contemporary Russian artist Alexander Blot (born 1990) became well-known thanks to his distinct style and proactive transformation of public surfaces. His career began in 2008, when the artist moved beyond the academical schooling and started expressing his ideas on the walls of the city. Blot has come a long way — from testing out materials as a beginner to conducting a deep analysis of the ways a painting impacts the surroundings and vice versa. The gained experience allowed him to research himself and to start looking for his place in life. It set a direction for Blot’s creative development and gave rise to the subjects of his paintings. Stylistically, his artistic language is formed at the junction of deep metaphors and simplicity of shapes that belong to people, animals and insects. The concepts of Blot’s works are based on symbols and visual allegories.
With the help of universally understood scenarios, he reveals his attitude to a number of philosophical issues: inner freedom and individuality; loneliness and interaction with other people; following your life choices and being in harmony with the world.
These days the artist is an active contributor in festivals and exhibitions both in Russia and abroad. His works are being published in books and magazines dedicated to street art and contemporary art. Blot spends a lot of time outside and in the studio where he combines multiple materials and techniques — from spray cans and acrylic paint to embroidery on paper and canvas.
